Hawkins, Broward Democrat eye 2022 elections

Freshman state Rep. Fred Hawkins, R-St. Cloud, and a potential replacement for Rep. Evan Jenne, D-Dania Beach, are gearing up for 2022 campaigns. Hawkins and Cooper City Democrat Jeremy Katzman opened campaign accounts Friday to run for the House in 2022, according to the state Division of Elections website. Hawkins received 46.8 percent of the vote as he won a three-way race last month to win an open seat in House District 42 in Osceola and Polk counties. Jenne was re-elected without opposition this year in Broward County’s House District 99 but cannot run again in 2022 because of term limits. Katzman is the first candidate who has opened a campaign account to try to succeed him.
