FPL Leads the Way in Reliability
In a remarkable achievement, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) reported 2024 as its best ever year for system reliability, with customers, on average, experiencing the fewest outage minutes on record. This milestone is the result of decades of focused investment in infrastructure and cutting-edge technology.
FPL's service reliability continues to exceed expectations, ranking 59% better than the national average and placing the company in the top 10% nationally. FPL has made significant strides, including:
- 40% improvement in overall system reliability over the last two decades
- 82% of main power lines hardened
- 96% of transmission structures converted to steel or concrete
Additionally, FPL’s Storm Secure Underground Program has been pivotal in enhancing reliability, with 3,000 projects, focused on undergrounding neighborhood power lines, completed since 2019. Additionally, 227,000 intelligent devices have been installed across the grid to detect and prevent potential issues, leading to 2.7 million avoided outages in 2024 alone.
In Northwest Florida, FPL's efforts have translated into notable improvements, including reducing wooden transmission structures, better service reliability, and increased deployment of smart grid devices. These enhancements provide residents with more resilient and reliable power.
FPL's commitment to reliability ensures that customers benefit from fewer outages and faster restorations, all while keeping their bills well below the national average. This dedication to working for you, every single day, keeps FPL at the forefront of the industry.
