The Week Ahead in Florida Politics – May 30, 2016

THE CAPITAL, TALLAHASSEE, MAY 27, 2016…. It's that time of year again. The 2016 Atlantic hurricane season will start Wednesday, after a decade of Florida avoiding a direct hit. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is offering a "near-normal" forecast for the six-month season, which means a 70 percent chance of 10 to 16 named storms, of which four to eight could grow into hurricanes.

MEMORIAL DAY: State offices will be closed for Memorial Day.

LIBERTARIANS FINISH NATIONAL CONVENTION: The Libertarian National Convention will conclude in Orlando. (Monday, call to order 8:30 a.m., Rosen Centre Hotel, 9840 International Dr., Orlando.)

DEUTCH SPEAKS AT MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS: U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., is slated to speak at three Memorial Day events in Broward County. (Monday, 9 a.m., Veterans Park, 3550 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek. UCF TRUSTEES MEET: The University of Central Florida Board of Trustees will meet after holding committee meetings earlier in the day. (Tuesday, 1 p.m., University of Central Florida, Fairwinds Alumni Center, Orlando.)

SCOTT TO TOUT 'LEGACY FLORIDA': Gov. Rick Scott is expected to hold a ceremonial bill-signing event for the "Legacy Florida" initiative, which will provide money to help restore the Everglades, the state's natural springs and Lake Apopka. Also expected to take part in the event are incoming Senate President Joe Negron, R-Stuart, and state Rep. Gayle Harrell, R-Stuart. FISH AND WILDLIFE DISCUSSES BEAR ISSUES: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will hold a webinar to discuss bear-management issues. UNEMPLOYMENT PANEL MEETS: The Reemployment Assistance Appeals Commission, which hears cases involving unemployment compensation, will meet. (Wednesday, 9 a.m., 101 Rhyne Building, 2740 Centerview Dr., Tallahassee.)
