RONALD GIFFLER has been installed as president of the Florida Medical Association. Giffler, of Pompano Beach, is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, is president and CEO of FirstPath, a physician-operated lab, and is medical director of laboratory services for Broward Health.

JOEL ANDERSON has been elected board chairman of LeadingAge Florida. Anderson is CEO of Village On The Isle in Venice.

RICK OWEN has been hired as president of the United Way of Florida. Owen most recently served as president and CEO of United Way Emerald Coast and also served 27 years in the United States Air Force.

TARYN FENSKE has started working as director of communications at the Florida Department of Education. Fenske’s previous positions have included Florida communications director for the Republican National Committee during the 2018 election cycle.

LAZARO FIELDS, MEREDITH STEER, KAITLIN WEISS AND COREY AITTAMA have been appointed to positions by Lawrence Keefe, the United States attorney for the Northern District of Florida. Fields, who will be an assistant U.S. attorney, has worked as a litigation associate at Colson Hicks Eidson, P.A. Steer, who will be as an assistant U.S. attorney, has served in the United States Air Force JAG Corps. Weiss, who will be an assistant U.S. attorney, has worked as an assistant attorney general in the Florida Attorney General’s Office. Aittama, who will be law enforcement coordinator for the Northern district, has held positions such as law enforcement captain with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Office of Inspector General.

ZACHARIAH ZACHARIAH, SCOTT ACKERMAN AND DAVID DIAMOND have been appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to the Florida Board of Medicine. Zachariah, of Fort Lauderdale, is a cardiologist and internal medicine doctor, medical director at UHealth Cardiology, Fort Lauderdale, and a member of the clinical faculty at the University of Miami. Ackerman, of Jacksonville, is a radiation oncologist and medical director at Ackerman Cancer Center. Diamond, of Winter Park, is a radiation oncologist at Florida Radiation Oncology.

CHARLES FISCHER has been appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to the Florida Building Commission. Fischer, of Lighthouse Point, is president and owner of C.W. Fischer Electric.

MATTHEW KRAMER AND PAMELA SIGULER have been appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind Board of Trustees. Kramer, of St. Augustine, is an executive therapeutic specialist with Gilead Science. Siguler, of Ponte Vedra Beach, is a retired educator who taught deaf and blind students.

ROB BRADLEY AND DENISE GRIMSLEY have been appointed by Senate President Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, to serve on the Industrial Hemp Advisory Council. Bradley, a Fleming Island Republican, represents District 5 in the Florida Senate. Grimsley, a Sebring Republican, is a former member of the Florida Senate and the Florida House.

FENTRICE DRISKELL has been appointed by House Speaker Jose Oliva, R-Miami Lakes, to the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission. Driskell, a Tampa Democrat, represents District 63 in the Florida House.

VICTOR TORRES has been appointed by Senate President Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, to the Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame Council. Torres, an Orlando Democrat, represents District 15 in the Florida Senate.

TONI AZINGER has been appointed by Senate President Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, to represent the Senate on the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking Direct-Support Organization Board of Directors. Azinger, of Bradenton, has held leadership roles in organizations that raise funds to support victims of human trafficking.

NICHOLE “NIKKI” ALVAREZ-SOWLES has been appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis as Pasco County clerk of the circuit court and comptroller. Alvarez-Sowles, of Land O’ Lakes, previously served as the clerk’s chief operations officer and as criminal courts director.

STEPHEN SWINDAL has been reappointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to the Tampa Port Authority. Swindal, of Tampa, is owner of Marine Towing of Tampa.

LLOYD FRECKLETON has been reappointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to the Daytona State College Board of Trustees. Freckleton, of Flagler Beach, served over 30 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and retired from the New York City Department of Corrections.

SCOTT BERNSTEIN has been named by Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles Canady as the 2019 recipient of the Chief Justice Award for Judicial Excellence. Bernstein serves as a Miami-Dade County circuit judge and is administrative judge in the circuit’s Family Division.
