The Week Ahead in Florida Politics – October 10, 2016

THE CAPITAL, TALLAHASSEE, OCTOBER 7, 2016......Going into the homestretch of the 2016 campaign season, Floridians face a Tuesday deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 8 general election. Also during the coming week, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and GOP vice-presidential candidate Mike Pence will try to rally support in the state. Some other types of events, however, could be canceled or postponed because of the effects of Hurricane Matthew.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2016

THOMPSON HELPS UNVEIL BILLBOARD: State Sen. Geraldine Thompson, D-Orlando, and other local leaders are scheduled to take part in an event to unveil a billboard touting President Barack Obama and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. (Monday, 10:30 a.m., International Union of Painters & Allied Trades, 2153 West Oak Ridge Road, Orlando.)

PUTNAM DISCUSSES PROPERTY RIGHTS AND ENVIRONMENT: Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam is slated to be among the speakers during a meeting hosted by the Tampa Bay Lawyers Chapter of The Federalist Society. Putnam and other panelists are expected to discuss property rights and the environment. (Monday, noon, The University Club of Tampa, 201 North Franklin St., Suite 3800, Tampa.)

RUSSIA AT ISSUE AT ECONOMIC CLUB: Nikita Chernovalov, strategic and business innovation manager for the Fagerhult Group, will address the Economic Club of Florida. The topic will be, "Russia: Observations from the Middle East." (Monday, noon, FSU Alumni Center, 1030 West Tennessee St., Tallahassee.)

PALM BEACH GOP CANDIDATES GATHER: The Republican Club of the Northern Palm Beaches is scheduled to hold an event that will include congressional and legislative candidates. Among the expected participants are GOP congressional candidates Brian Mast and Paul Spain, state Senate candidate Ron Berman and state House candidates Rick Roth and Laurel Bennett. BEAN GIVES LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: State Sen. Aaron Bean, R-Fernandina Beach, is expected to give a legislative update to the Jacksonville Oceanside Rotary Club. (Tuesday, 7:30 a.m., Atlantic Beach Country Club, 1600 Selva Marina Dr., Atlantic Beach.)

VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Voters face a Tuesday deadline to register for the Nov. 8 general election.

PENCE, RUBIO SPEAK AT GOP DINNER: The Republican Party of Florida will continue its quarterly meeting, with vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence and U.S. Sen. TOLEDO, QUINN AT GOP PICNIC: Republicans Jackie Toledo, who is running in Hillsborough County's state House District 60, and Christine Quinn, who is running in Congressional District 14, are expected to take part in the South Shore Republican Club's annual picnic.
