The Week Ahead in Florida Politics - November 24, 2014


THE CAPITAL, TALLAHASSEE, NOVEMBER 21, 2014…..The frantic election season is finished. The 2015 legislative session is starting to take shape. But for the next week, state government and politics will be relatively quiet as lawmakers, lobbyists and the rest of the players celebrate Thanksgiving. The Florida Public Service Commission could see the most action, as it takes up a controversial energy-efficiency issue Tuesday.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2014

IMMIGRANT ER CARE AT ISSUE: Administrative Law Judge John D.C. Newton is scheduled to start hearing arguments in a dispute between hospitals and the state Agency for Health Care Administration about Medicaid payments for emergency care provided to undocumented immigrants. LABARGA LOOKS TO IMPROVE ACCESS: Supreme Court Chief Justice Jorge Labarga will sign an order creating the Florida Commission on Access to Civil Justice. ENERGY EFFICIENCY DEBATED: The Florida Public Service Commission will take up a series of issues, including proposals by electric utilities dealing with energy-efficiency goals. Environmental and clean-energy groups have criticized the proposals, saying utilities should do more to conserve energy and use renewable energy sources.
