Sutphin named interim chief of Veterans' Affairs

BY THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA

The Florida Cabinet on Tuesday named Glenn Sutphin as interim executive director of the state Department of Veterans' Affairs, after agency head Mike Prendergast announced last month that he was resigning to run for Citrus County sheriff. Sutphin, a longtime chief of staff for the Department of Military Affairs who served in the National Guard for more than 30 years, was nominated by Gov. Rick Scott for the temporary post, which will pay based on a rate of $150,000 a year. Scott and the Cabinet are expected to interview applicants for Prendergast's permanent replacement on Aug. 2. Applicants will have until July 15 to file resumes, with a short list of finalists expected to be named at a July 27 meeting of Cabinet aides.
