"BHAG FLORIDA"

Breakout Session Theme and Topics

Announced for Second Day of

Florida Leaders Summit

On September 12th and 13th, Florida’s top business, government, news media, non-profit and academic leaders will converge in Orlando for the first annual Sayfie Review Florida Leaders Summit.  At the Summit, Florida’s leaders will consider and discuss the most impactful ideas, issues and trends facing our state.  The Summit’s mission is “Engaging Florida’s Leaders, Shaping Florida’s Agenda, Prospering Florida’s Future.”

Thought Leadership Partners for the Summit include the Florida Council of 100, Leadership Florida, the Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida, the Foundation for Florida’s Future, the Florida Chamber Foundation, the AIF Foundation, the Florida Philanthropic Network, the Florida Press Association, the Florida Public Broadcast Service, Univision and the University of Miami.

Following on the first day’s Summit theme of DISRUPT FLORIDA, we have selected a provocative theme for the breakout discussion groups during the second day of the Summit:  BHAG FLORIDA.

Summit attendees, with help from Sayfie Review readers, will collectively identify a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (“BHAG”) for the State of Florida in the following areas:

BHAG Florida:  Tourism

BHAG Florida:  Transportation

BHAG Florida:  Energy

BHAG Florida:  K-12

BHAG Florida:  Higher Education

BHAG Florida:  Health

BHAG Florida:  Water

A true BHAG is a visionary goal that is strategic and emotionally compelling, and serves as a unifying focal point of effort.

In the weeks leading up to the Summit, Sayfie Review readers will have the opportunity to nominate BHAG’s online in each of the seven categories.  At the Summit, attendees for each breakout session will be provided with the reader-nominated BHAG’s for that topic.  The breakout session moderator will begin by explaining the characteristics of a good BHAG.  The moderator may present some additional information on the specific topic before posing the following question to the breakout attendees:  “What should Florida’s BHAG be in this area?”  Each table of ten will have a discussion leader to lead the discussion at the table and take notes.  Attendees may consider both reader nominated BHAG’s as well as BHAG’s of their own for the discussion.

After the discussion, each table’s discussion leader will orally report to the breakout session participants regarding the discussion group’s proposed BHAG for the specified topic.  The proposed BHAG from each table’s discussion group will be clearly posted in the front of the breakout room.  After each table’s proposed BHAG has been posted, all breakout session attendees will vote for the single best posted BHAG.  The results will be reported instantaneously to attendees as well as Sayfie Review readers, email subscribers, Twitter followers and Facebook fans.

Ultimately, the breakout session discussion groups on the Summit’s second day will determine what Florida’s Big Hairy Audacious Goals should be for Tourism, Transportation, Energy, K-12, Higher Education, Health and Water.
