Steinger quickly rakes in cash for Senate race

BY THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA

Palm Beach Gardens Democrat Michael Steinger quickly raised $211,510 last month after entering the race for an open South Florida Senate seat, according to the state Division of Elections website. Steinger, a lawyer, collected the money in less than three weeks after opening a campaign account May 12. He also loaned $200,000 to the campaign and had spent $12,111 as of Tuesday. Steinger is one of four candidates running in the redrawn Senate District 30 in Palm Beach County. The other candidates are state Rep. Bobby Powell, D-Riviera Beach, Jupiter Democrat Tony Bennett and Palm Beach Gardens Republican Ronald Berman. Candidates face a June 10 deadline for filing updated reports showing campaign-finance activity through May. Powell, Bennett and Berman had not filed updated reports as of Friday morning, according to the state website.
