Simpson, Bean collect cash before session

Incumbent Republicans Wilton Simpson and Aaron Bean continued piling up campaign cash in early January as they prepare to seek re-election to the Senate this fall. Simpson, R-Trilby, raised $87,575 last month and had about $169,000 in available cash as of Jan. 31, according to a newly filed finance report. Bean, R-Fernandina Beach, collected $43,000 in January and finished the month with more than $92,000 on hand. Both candidates, along with other lawmakers, raised money before the Jan. 12 start of the legislative session. They are barred from receiving contributions during the session.
