Senate would name road after Weatherford

BY THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA

The Senate on Tuesday approved a bill that includes naming a road in Pasco County for former House Speaker Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel. The bill (SB 114), filed by Sen. Bill Montford, D-Tallahassee, includes a number of road designations across the state. Before the measure passed, Sen. John Legg, R-Trinity, proposed an amendment to name part of a road as the "Speaker Will Weatherford Highway" after construction of the road is completed. The amendment was adopted without debate. The overall bill, which still needs approval from the House, then passed the Senate in a 34-1 vote, with only Sen. Nancy Detert, R-Venice, opposed. Weatherford served as speaker from 2012 to 2014.
