Race to replace Fresen gets more crowded

BY THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA

A Miami-Dade County race to replace term-limited Rep. Erik Fresen, R-Miami, continues to attract candidates. Democrat Daisy Baez opened a campaign account last week to run in 2016 in House District 114, joining four other candidates who have signaled they will seek the seat. The other candidates are Democrats Ross Hancock and Alberto Santana and Republicans John Couriel and Jose Pazos, according to the state Division of Elections website. Fresen, who was first elected in 2008, cannot run for re-election to the seat. Also last week, Miami Democrat Mary Estime-Irvin opened an account to challenge Rep. Barbara Watson, D-Miami Gardens, in Miami-Dade's House District 107. Also planning a run is Miami Gardens Democrat Dennis Hinds, according to the Division of Elections website.
