PERRY THURSTON has been elected chairman of the Florida Legislative Black Caucus. Thurston, a Fort Lauderdale Democrat, represents District 33 in the Florida Senate.

JAY FANT has been elected chairman of the Duval County legislative delegation. Fant, a Jacksonville Republican, represents District 15 in the Florida House.

RANDY HANNA has been named dean of Florida State University's Panama City campus. Hanna, who has been interim dean since Aug. 1., previously held positions such as chancellor of the Florida College System.

MICHELE TALLENT has been named deputy secretary for administrative services at the Florida Department of Health. Tallent's previous positions have included director of the department's Office of Budget and Revenue Management.

ALBERTO MOSCOSO has been named director of communications and public information officer for the Florida Division of Emergency Management. Moscoso most recently worked as press secretary for the Florida Department of Corrections.

BARBARA JENKINS has been named 2017 Superintendent of the Year by the Florida Association of District School Superintendents. Jenkins has been superintendent of the Orange County public schools since 2012.

PAUL HILL, general counsel and head of governmental relations for The Florida Bar since 1987, has stepped down and will retire in January. Patrick "Booter" Imhof, a longtime Senate staff director, has succeeded Hill as general counsel.

AUSTIN DURRER has been named chief of staff for newly elected Democratic Congressman Charlie Crist. Durrer most recently has served as chief of staff of the U.S. Commerce Department's Economics and Statistics Administration.

CHRISTOPHER FISHER has been named legislative director for newly elected Democratic Congressman Charlie Crist. Fisher has previously held positions with Democratic Congressmen Patrick Murphy and Ted Deutch.

CANDICE K. BROWER has been appointed by Gov. Rick Scott as criminal conflict and civil regional counsel for the First Region. Brower, of Newberry, serves as the 8th Circuit civil division chief of the Office of Criminal Conflict and civil regional counsel for the First Region.
