Hillsborough House race draws big bucks

With House Majority Leader Dana Young running for a Senate seat, the race to replace her in Hillsborough County's House District 60 drew more than $100,000 in April, according to finance reports filed this week. Tampa Democrat David Singer, who opened a campaign account April 7, quickly raised $47,450 during the month, while spending $345. Meanwhile, Republican Rebecca Smith raised $31,075 in April, bringing her overall contribution total to $112,778. Smith had nearly $98,000 in cash on hand as of April 30, the reports show. Another Republican candidate, Jackie Toledo, collected $22,021 during the month, bringing her overall contribution total to $72,033. Toledo also has loaned $25,000 to the campaign and had spent a total of $13,534 as of April 30.
