Diaz de la Portilla rakes in $125K for Senate battle

BY THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA

In what could be one of the most closely watched legislative races of the year, Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, R-Miami, collected more than $125,000 in April to help fuel his campaign, according to a newly filed finance report. Diaz de la Portilla is running in a redrawn Senate District 37 against Rep. Jose Javier Rodriguez, D-Miami. Diaz de la Portilla collected $125,600 in April and had $157,600 in cash on hand as of the end of the month. Rodriguez raised $19,780 during April and had $119,495 in cash on hand. Candidates and political committees were required to file updated campaign-finance information by a Tuesday deadline. Senate District 37 was redrawn as a result of a long-running lawsuit that challenged the constitutionality of Senate districts.
