Deadline looms for PSC candidates

BY THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA

With Commissioner Lisa Edgar's term set to expire at the end of the year, candidates for a spot on the Florida Public Service Commission face a deadline of 5 p.m. Tuesday to submit applications. A nominating council will narrow the list of candidates for the $131,000-a-year job, with Gov. Rick Scott expected to make an appointment later in the year. Edgar, who can apply for another term, is the longest-serving commissioner on the five-member panel that regulates utilities. She was initially appointed by then-Gov. Jeb Bush for a four-year term that started in January 2005 and subsequently was reappointed by former Gov. Charlie Crist and Scott.
