BENACQUISTO DRAWS ANOTHER GOP FOE

By News Service Florida

State Senate Majority Leader Lizbeth Benacquisto, R-Fort Myers, has drawn a second Republican opponent as she seeks re-election this year. Bokeelia Republican Michael Dreikorn filed paperwork Monday to challenge Benacquisto in Senate District 30, which includes parts of Lee and Charlotte counties, according to the state Division of Elections website. It would be something of a rematch, as both Benacquisto and Dreikorn ran unsuccessfully this spring for the Republican nomination in a special election in Congressional District 19. Also in the race is Fort Myers Republican Thomas LePine, who opened a campaign account in January. Benacquisto has a huge fund-raising edge, collecting nearly $521,000 through the end of May, though she also reported spending $335,531, according to information on the Division of Elections website.
