Benacquisto, Braynon add to funding edges

Facing challenges in the Aug. 26 primary elections, Senate Majority Leader Lizbeth Benacquisto, R-Fort Myers, and Sen. Oscar Braynon, D-Miami Gardens, have added to their fundraising leads. Benacquisto collected $21,350 from July 26 to Aug. 1, bringing her overall total to $646,459, newly filed finance reports show. She also had spent a total of $573,658 as of Aug. 1. Benacquisto faces a primary challenge in Senate District 30 from Bokeelia Republican Michael Dreikorn, who had raised a total of $10,282. Meanwhile, Braynon, collected $24,025 from July 26 to Aug. 1, giving him a total of $201,436. Braynon had spent a total of $130,690. Braynon is being challenged by North Miami Democrat Anis "Auguste" Blemur, who had raised a total of $16,696 as of Aug. 1 and loaned the campaign $55,810, according to the reports.
