Democrats tap speakers for annual ‘gala’

The Florida Democratic Party on Friday announced speakers for its annual Leadership Blue Gala, including two spouses of 2020 presidential candidates and Tom Perez, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee. “This year’s gala will be an opportunity to hear from diverse voices and Democratic leaders from across the United States,” Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Terrie Rizzo said in a statement. “(Republican President Donald) Trump can’t win the White House without Florida, and Democrats are investing across the board to do the hard work it will take to win.” The event will take place June 7 to June 9 in Orlando. That is the same time Iowa Democrats are hosting a forum in Cedar Rapids, where the majority of the party’s presidential candidates will be. While Florida Democrats won’t see presidential hopefuls, they will have the spouses of two presidential candidates: South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg and U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif. Other speakers will include U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., and U.S. House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries of New York.
