Farmer readies for Senate run against Waldman

Broward County attorney Gary Farmer has opened a campaign account to battle former state Rep. Jim Waldman in a Democratic primary next year for an open Senate seat, according to the state Division of Elections website. Farmer and Waldman will seek to replace term-limited Sen. Jeremy Ring, D-Margate, in Broward's Senate District 29. Also in South Florida, Boca Raton Democrat Douglas Oberman has opened an account to take on state Rep. Irv Slosberg, D-Boca Raton, in 2016 in Palm Beach County's House District 91. Boynton Beach Republican Ryan Fleming also has opened a campaign account for the race. Meanwhile, in the Tampa Bay area, St. Petersburg Republican Sharon Russ has opened a campaign account to try to succeed term-limited Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, in House District 70, which includes parts of Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties. Also running for the seat is St. Petersburg Democrat Wengay Newton Sr.
