Canady joins other justices on November ballot

BY THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA

Florida Supreme Court Justice Charles Canady has formally qualified for a merit-retention vote, joining Chief Justice Jorge Labarga and Justice Ricky Polston on the November ballot, according to the state Division of Elections website. Qualifying began Monday and will end Friday for this year's elections in judicial, state attorney and public defender races. Canady qualified Tuesday, following Labarga and Polston, whose qualifying information had been posted earlier on the website. Canady, a former state lawmaker and congressman, was appointed to the court in 2008 by former Gov. Charlie Crist. He received support from 67.5 percent of voters during a 2010 merit-retention election.
